RTAC1 - Advancing Skills (Tactical Rifle Level 1) is a tactical carbine class that provides students instruction and drills to start building a foundation for using rifles in a more tactical, defensive and skillful way. RTAC1 takes basic rifle skills to the next level by introducing strategies that allow shooters to build upon and utilize basic fundamentals. The goals of this class is to increase knowledge as well as develop muscle memory and familiarity with your primary weapon (rifle).

This class is four (4) hours of tactical rifle training at a shooting range. Students will learn and practice tactical drills in a safe, friendly, and supportive learning environment. Drills are intended to make students more comfortable with firing and manipulating their rifle, while also preparing them for a defensive encounter.

The day begins with a safety brief as well as a discussion regarding the mindset and philosophies of the defensive use of rifles. Students will engage in dry fire manipulations, followed by live fire drills that solidify the proper placement of gear, loading/unloading, shouldering, sight alignment, ready positions, moving with a firearm in ready positions, emergency reloads, tactical reloads, clearing malfunctions, and tactful elements of marksmanship.

*Rental equipment (firearm/ammunition/eye & ear protection) is available for an additional fee and with advanced notice.

**All firearms must be unloaded and in a case or holster upon arrival. All firearms will remain unloaded and on safe until specifically directed otherwise by, and under the guidance of, a TVSA Instructor.

There are no prerequisites to this course, however, all students must be able to perform introductory-level skills such as safety and weapon manipulation (i.e. locking chamber open, loading magazines, follow universal safety rules, etc.). If students are not confident in their abilities with basic rifle manipulation, we recommend taking our Basic Rifle Fundamentals class.

RTAC1 is the prerequisite required to attend RTAC2 (Introduction to Movement) and RTAC3 (Fire Team Fundamentals).
