Youth Firearm Education
Building Safe, Confident, & Responsible Youths
At Treasure Valley Shooting Academy (TVSA), we believe firearm safety education should be age-appropriate, engaging, and grounded in real-world prevention. Firearms exist in many homes and communities, and EDUCATION, NOT FEAR, is the strongest tool for keeping our youth safe.
That's why TVSA offers two distinct youth firearm safety courses, thoughtfully designed to meet children and teens at their developmental level while emphasizing respect, responsibility, and informed decision-making.
Program Overview
TVSA youth safety courses are divided by age to ensure every student receives instruction appropriate to their maturity, attention level, and understanding:
- Children's Firearm Safety (Ages 7-12): Focused on prevention, awareness, and safe decision-making
- Youth Firearm Safety (Ages 13-18): Focused on responsibility, mechanics, and practical safety skills
Both courses emphasize education, confidence-building, and long-term respect for firearms.
Supervised Range Experience: Optional
For students who demonstrate maturity, attentiveness, and respect for safety, there is an optional supervised range time offered as a carefully monitored real-world learning experience.
*Must have Parent/Guardian consent and presence.
Children's Firearm Safety (Ages 7-12)
Children are naturally curious. This course replaces curiosity with understanding by teaching young students how to stay safe around firearms without encouraging handling or experimentation.
This class is designed to help children make smart, safe choices when firearms are present, whether at home, in a vehicle, or while visiting friends and family.
What Children Will Learn
- What firearms are and how they function (age-appropriate explanations)
- The Four Universal Firearm Safety Rules, taught in a memorable and relatable way
- How to behave safely in environments where firearms may be present
- The importance of boundaries, awareness, and asking for help from trusted adults
- Understanding responsibility and respect to prevent accidents
Instruction focuses on prevention and real-world safety, NOT FEAR. Through interactive discussion and demonstrations, students gain clarity, confidence, and practical safety awareness.
Youth Firearm Safety (Ages 13-18)
As adolescents mature, so does their ability to understand responsibility and consequences. This course builds on foundational safety principles while introducing teens to firearm mechanics, safe handling practices, and responsible decision-making.
Whether students have prior exposure to firearms or are learning for the first time, this class equips them with the tools needed to stay safe and act responsibly.
What Teens Will Learn
- A comprehensive review of the Four Universal Firearm Safety Rules and real-world application
- Firearm mechanics and operation, including actions, safeties, triggers, and parts
- How to safely load, unload, and clear malfunctions
- Safe storage practices and situational awareness
- How to choose appropriate firearms, calibers, and ammunition
- The real-world consequences of misuse, negligence, and poor judgment

This course emphasizes not just technical skill, but critical thinking, judgment, and accountability.
